Welcome to the tutorial portion of the course in this video. I'm going to show you how I make reels using the Instagram reels editor. There's a few different places that you can get started when it comes to making reels and Instagram. The easiest one to find is just using the plus button either on your profile or on the main home feed and you can see there's a list all the different kinds of content that you can make on Instagram. You can go ahead and tap on real and it will open up the reels editor. There is also the option though of if you go to the reels Tab and you're watching through reels you can either press the camera button in the top right hand corner that will also open up the reels editor and you'll see that it has suggested here the audio and effects from the video. We were just watching so if I tap that it'll automatically implement the effects of the person used in that real and the audio they were using so you come across a really really like using that camera button is a really great way to make a similar real in addition to that though.
There's a couple other ways you can start let's say I find an audio that's trending that I want to use I can tap on that audio in the bottom right hand corner. It's gonna bring up the audio and a button that says use audio. So if I go ahead and tap that now I can create a real using that trending audio and very similar to before it's automatically synced it there but it just didn't apply any of the effects from that video and finally the third option to get started with creating your real is if you come across The used template button while you're scrolling if you tap on that Instagram is going to give you the audio to use and a bunch of slots for you to add your own media. This is really cool because it means that you can follow Trends way faster than having to assign all the different timings to the clips yourself. So if I just tap on ADD media, you can see I can start selecting photos or videos that I have in my camera roll and I'll just select enough here so we can see You can see it's automatically generated the real for me based on the timings of the original poster. Okay. So those are all great places to start particularly. If you want to follow a trend use an effect that you came across or use a trending audio, but we're gonna go back to my profile feed here, press the plus button and open up the reels editor for a fresh start. So when it comes to making a brand new reel, you have two options. You can either record your content directly inside of the Instagram app, or you can import videos that you've taken in the past. If you want to import videos from your camera roll. All I like to do is tap this Square in the bottom left hand corner. And if you organize your media in your camera roll in different albums, if you tap on recents, you can choose from different folders. For example, I keep a folder called real footage. We're basically I just save any vertical b-roll that I happen to capture just throughout my life and that makes it really easy to create compilation reels if I want to so, let's say I wanted to select multiple clips here I can tap on this. Multiple media button here and you can see I now have the circles so I can select these different clips. So let's say I want to select my matcha video me jumping in the pool maybe working in the van. I don't know maybe riding my bike. fit check You know normal, you would maybe fix that that has more connection to each other but this is just for the example. So once I've selected everything that I want to use in my real I can tap on next and you can see that reels has automatically suggested an audio that I can use. So there's like a whole list of audios that the app thinks might work with what I've selected but I can also go ahead and tap search and look for whatever audio I might want to use. I can also choose one that I've saved in the past.
So like I said, that's just one option. You can also of course film your content directly inside the app. I would personally recommend to you if you're thinking of capturing a lot of different visuals and those visuals might be useful to you again in the future. Then I highly recommend capturing everything just with your camera app saving it in your camera roll and that way you can pull it back in and use it again in the future because if you record it inside of reels and then you end up saving your real with text and stickers which will get to in just a minute then. Ever going to have the copy but already has text on it and I think it can be really valuable to build up your own library of real footage just like I've done so if you think that the clips are going to capture might have utility in the future do that and just your regular camera app, but if you're making something and you're thinking I'm only ever going to post this as a real one time, it's not a big deal. Then you can go ahead and record it inside of reels another reason you might want to record directly in the app is if you're using some of the effects that might be helpful to your video.
For example, a really popular one is the green screen effect, which I have saved right here. So you can see it automatically cuts out the background makes it green but really the purpose of it is that you can tap on ADD media and you can pull in, you know, like a photo or a screenshot or whatever and then you can talk in front of it in your video. So the green screen effect can be really helpful for that or if you've come across a trend that employs a specific effect. Then you might want to create it, right. Side of reels or like I was saying before if you want to use a template or lip sync, for example, that's another reason why you might want to record directly inside of reals one quick tip before we move on. If you want to record a green screen video, for example, and you think actually that might be helpful for me to have in the future then you can go ahead and you know select whatever you want your background to be and just record your little clip where you're talking in front of your background say whatever you want to say. And before you go ahead and do anything else with your reel you can just tap next and then tap on the download button because you haven't added any audio yet. It's just you talking it will save with the audio and the visual to your camera roll and then you have that if you ever need in the future, that's something that I've done before particularly if I want to use the green screen effect, but I also want to do some more complex editing that can't be achieved and the real editor. I'm gonna share more about that in the next video where I show you how I edit my reels. In Adobe rush, but just know that option is always on the table. If you want to use something like the green screen effect that you also want to be able to edit outside of reals, then you can always record it inside Instagram and then download the clip to your camera roll.
Okay. Now that I've gone through all of the various circumstances and ways that you can start creating a real let's dive in to what some of the features look like once we actually start making one. So for this example, I'm just gonna record a couple Clips inside of the app. Me still my darling. So you can see I've just gone ahead and started recording without any music in the background. But if you want to lip sync or make sure that your video is going to go along with some kind of music you can tap on this music button here and select one before you ever start filming for the sake of this example. I'm not gonna use any music right now. You can also record your clips for your reel at different speeds. So if you tap on this one times here, you can see that there's various options. You can either record something so it plays back sped up or so that it plays back slow down. For example, if I press on point five right here and let's say I film myself flipping my hair or something. You can see a place back in slow motion. I mean, it's a pretty underwhelming slow motion clip, but you get the idea similarly we can go to like four times and And you can see it plays back very sped up. So there's options there. You can Implement these different speeds in a variety of different creative ways. Just know it's there if you want to use it and of course make sure to switch back to one times. If you want it to play back at normal speed. There's also this new Option called dual which basically allows you to record both, you know you and what you're looking at at the same time so I can just show you like oh, this is my perspective well I'm filming my video. That's an option. I mean, it's a pretty specific feature. But if you find it use for it, you know good on you. And finally we have the Align feature which I think is very underrated. Like this is a very super helpful feature if you are trying to do transitions. So for example, let's say I was filming myself and I wanted to go ahead and snap. And then change outfits or something like that. I could press the Align tool and then you can see that there is like a layer of my last frame that I can use to line myself up. So that you could make it transition.
All right, Now that we've put together this very random real let's go ahead and add some of the features and editing one of the most common things you're gonna want to do when it comes to creating your real is adding text. So you can do that by tapping on those two A's and add whatever text you like. Of course, there's lots of different fonts. You can choose from you can just tap on them to preview what they look like and they all have sort of additional stylings where you can tap on the little highlight button and that will give it a background. They also have animations. So if you want it to kind of like fade in or be typed in they all have different ways that they're animated. You can see for example. This one types it out. Now. Once you've added your text, you might want to have it appear at certain times in the video, but not the entire time to do that. You can tap on the text below here and you can see that you're able to select what portion of the video the text appears for so I can make it start at the beginning of my next clip. And end at the end of this clip I can also of course move it around the screen wherever I'd like. and now we can Play it back. This is another quick tip for you. If you're getting frustrated, because your videos just continuously playing and you don't have time to like pause and look at it. Just tap on the screen it'll pause and you can also buffer along this timeline here to look at whatever part of the real you want to preview or you know, edit there's all lots of different stickers that you can add to your real. So if you tap on the sticker tray icon here, you can see that similar to stories. You can add a quiz a poll. You can add a slider. These are all great features to make your real more interactive. And of course there's the captions button which I highly recommend using in the case of this video. I didn't do any talking so there won't be any thing to caption in there. But generally if you were talking to the camera, it's a great idea to include captions so that people can understand what you're getting a cross whether or not they can hear your audio.
Finally something you want to be aware of when you're editing your reels inside. The reels editor is this little edit Clips button if you tap on that you can trim the clips that you Can so let's say I didn't want to use the first little bit of this or the end of this, you know, I can trim it and then just go back to all clips and it will update in the larger timeline the length of that clip. This is also really helpful for those transitions. So let's just say I didn't quite end the video as soon as I should have so I'll stop that one there and then I can go to my next clip and trim to this point and that should just help make that transition a little bit more smooth. So the edit Clips feature can be super helpful. When you want to make those small refinements after the fact finally similar to Instagram stories. You can if you would like to draw over your real you can also add effects after the fact, so if you want to throw in like a different filter, you can choose that at that point and also at this stage if you wanted you could add a voiceover which all you need to do is tap on voiceover. And then press the record button or even scrub along the timeline to the point where you want to start doing your voice over press record. And now I'm recording a voiceover which we will hear when the real is played back. And then you can preview it. And tap done when you're happy with it. You can also add music from that same music library. We were browsing earlier, you know select whatever you think is applicable select the part of the song you want to use and then you can also edit the volume of all these things. So let's say we really want this music just to be background music. We want the voiceover to be loudest and we want our original camera audio to be a little bit quieter you can edit all of that right here inside that little music note menu and you can also add sound effects. Like if you want to add like the sound of a doorbell, for example, you can put that on your timeline, which is really cool. There's so many different options built right inside the reels editor which makes it really fun to use and you can get really creative with it. Once you've added everything you want to your real and you're happy with it. You can tap on next and at this point you can write your caption you can select your cover. So if you tap on edit cover you can either choose something from the real itself or you can import something from your camera. All and if you tap on profile grid over here, you can actually adjust what part of the image is going to be previewed on your grid.
Finally, you can go ahead and either share it or save it as a draft. And if you want to find it later, you can just go to your profile tap on reels and you'll see that your drafts are saved in the top left corner here. You can just tap in there and then you can go back to editing it or writing your caption and then post it when you're ready. So that is my guide to creating reels inside of the Instagram app. If you want to know how I like to create my reels outside of Instagram so that they are ready to be posted on both tiktok and reels then go ahead and watch the next video.
